Australia v Wales Match Reports

Australia completed a 2-0 series win with a thrilling 36-28 victory over Wales in Melbourne. A promising start for Wales was undone when the Wallabies ran the full length of the field to put Filipo Daugunu in for a try in the 7th minute. Heavy rain meant that both sides struggled to keep possession of the ball in slippery conditions. Jake Gordon took advantage of a dropped high ball to score the Wallabies' second try. Dewi Lake then scored a brace of tries for Wales as they employed a successful driving lineout on two separate occasions. Noah Lolesio kicked a third successful penalty to put the Wallabies into a 23-14 halftime lead. After the break, Liam Williams scored a well-worked try from a sustained Wales attack. Australia then took control when Allan Alaalatoa powered over the line and Daugunu completed his brace. But Wales were given hopes of a comeback when Rio Dyer broke through a number of tackles to finish in the corner with 10 minutes remaining. That hope was quashed when Ben Donaldson knocked over a late penalty to secure victory for the Wallabies. A selection of match reports is listed below:
