Ben Te'o likely to miss England's autumn internationals because of ankle injury

Worcester centre Ben Te'o looks set to miss England's autumn internationals because of an ankle problem.

Warriors coach Carl Hogg confirmed on Tuesday the 30-year-old had suffered a high ankle sprain early on during the European Challenge Cup win over Brive at Sixways and is now expected to need "at least a month" of rehabilitation.

England will meet Argentina on November 11 before further Test matches against both Australia and Samoa, with coach Eddie Jones already having seen Saracens number eight Billy Vunipola ruled out after undergoing a knee operation.

"Ben's unfortunately got a syndesmosis injury of his ankle. He's being assessed currently and will head back down to Cardiff on Monday to see whether he'll go down a surgical route or whether it'll be managed conservatively," Hogg said.

"He's expected to be out for at least a month, but we'll find out more next week once the swelling has settled down and it'll give us a better idea of time-frames."

Earlier on Tuesday, former Worcester winger Tom Biggs announced he had retired with immediate effect because of a long-standing knee injury.

The 33-year-old spent spells at Leeds Tykes, Newcastle Falcons and Bath before joining the Warriors in 2014, helping them to promotion into the Aviva Premiership a year later.

"After a lengthy rehab process with numerous operations, I had hoped to return to play and am very disappointed that this will not be possible," Biggs said on Twitter.
